In loving Memory of Sister Maureen Clare Hall O.S.F, Past Principal: 1963 -1991
Like a river with many tributaries Sister Maureen Clare’s 28 years of dedication impacted many generations of grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters and friends world wide. One cannot deny the influence she had on us as young ladies entering and exiting the gates of Immaculate Conception High School. We individually and collectively live and breathe a relentless drive to achieve excellence which is a direct result of her passion, love and commitment instilled in us.
She motivated, mentored, influenced, encouraged and inspired many. In view of these considerations we are reminded and recognize the massive effect that she had on our lives. In the course of recognizing the massive effect that she had on our lives, we are reminded of our “Immaculate Experience.” By and large, Sister Maureen Clare was the central driving force of the “Immaculate Experience.” The act of reminiscing brings recognition of her accomplishment as Principal of ICHS. Moreover, the recognition is enlarged when one takes into consideration the dynamics associated with the variety, and number, of challenging stakeholders she was obligated to consistently satisfy. Sister Maureen Claire was responsible, and successful, for 28 years in shaping a vision for Immaculate while being committed to the highest standards and reputation for the school.
The Immaculate Experience included Fear, Respect, Gratitude, Reverence, Love, and Legacy
Fear - For most students our initial encounter with Sister Maureen Clare as seventh graders was one of fear. This was evident in the hush that flowed down the once noisy hallway as she patrolled. One would hear “Mona Mona, Mona, Mona.” then silence.
Respect - Fear became respect which was developed over the years at Immaculate through discipline, educational programs, opportunities and the passion behind it all.
Gratitude - Upon successfully completing our journey, gratitude was naturally realized at graduation as we transitioned into our next phase of life. Realization occurred while practicing the walk to the graduation song by Felix Mendelssohn - War March of the Priest “one, two, three, one, two, three….” as she set the pace during practice while we were wearing our mandated one inch high white shoes.
Reverence - as an alumna, came the understanding of the dedication and commitment Sister Maureen Clare had for the institution and its legacy. Encouraging us to come together as alumnae, encouraging, soliciting donations and ideas, as well as exploring new opportunities for the further advancement of ICHS
Love - Looking back, one cannot deny the love and bond developed not just for our institution, but also for its head.
Legacy - Sister Maureen Clare will be missed. Her legacy lives on in all of us who walked the Halls of ICHS, past, current and future students.
This is the thing we affectionately call the “Immaculate Experience”.
Gone but not forgotten. Her light and legacy will continue to shine through each of us who withhold the “Immaculate Experience”. Her energy, dedication, determination, and passion lives on in us all.
A legend in her steadfast guidance full of Grace, wisdom and although strict, love. We are forever grateful for her life, commitment and her legacy.
Rest in Peace Sister Maureen Clare.
From the Immaculate International Alumnae Association Chapter
“…the legacy continues when we can build a home where our students are formed into women of integrity, guided by God. That is our challenge in these modern times.”
